War Eagle Invitational 2010
April 18, 2010
I had my 2nd competition of season yesterday at the Auburn University, War Eagle Invitational. We had a beautiful sunshiny day and about 20 women discus throwers. My series got off to a rough start, but I bounced back by the 5th round and threw 60.86 meters for a 1st place finish. I’ve been training really hard and my timing is just starting to come around. My training partner Will Conwell took 1st place in the men’s discus and Coach Clayton’s other throwers did really well. Up next for me is the Drake Relays, which will be all the top US throwers. Check out the video from the meet, courtesy of Will Conwell. And the pictures are courtesy of Kristin Heaston who some with my camera for me. For meet results

The All-American thrower is just the fourth Husky woman to win the award. April 12, 2010WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Junior javelin thrower Brooke Pighin garnered the first ever Pac-10 Women’s Field Athlete of the Week award of her career, the conference office announced today. Pighin is the first women’s thrower to earn the award since three-time Olympian Aretha (Hill) Thurmond.Pighin, a native of Port Alberni, British Columbia, took the javelin title at the Pepsi Team Invitational this past Saturday at the University of Oregon’s Hayward Field. She threw a season-best 166-feet, 10-inches, and no other competitor from Oregon, Texas A&M, or Missouri was within 10 feet of her winning mark, which came on her second attempt. The toss was six-feet farther than her season-opening throw just one week earlier at the Texas Relays. Pighin now moves up to sixth in the NCAA this season. In 2009, Pighin placed seventh in the javelin throw at the NCAA Championships, earning her first All-America honor. She ranks second on the UW career top-10 list with the new javelin implement.Pighin is just the fourth Husky woman to win the weekly honor in any event, joining Thurmond, hurdler Ashley Lodree, and distance runner Anita Campbell, who won the award last season. Warning check your water bottle
April 8, 2010
The last few weeks I have been educating myself on plastics. I was the typical person that would buy a bottle of water and reuse that same bottle several times. I have discovered that those bottles are designed for single use only and over time the plastic breaks down and leaks into your drink. You could be poisoning yourself and not even know it. I know that this is not news for most, but it was a shock for me. Read this article on, Are all Plastics Bad? and here is a another article, Plastic Bottles: are they safe and what do they mean? It will be eye opening. You’ll be excited to know that I have rid my kitchen of all the bad plastics.
