Pumpkin Pacth 2011

October 9, 2011

ppfront1.jpg

A great time was had by all at the Jack O Lantern Lane pumpkin patch this weekend.  This was our second time to the farm and it was even more fun than last year.  Two of Theo’s friends from school and thier families joined us.  They had a huge play area with bouncy houses and a giant bouncy slide.  Theo’s favorite was the Thomas the train ride which he rode twice.  Then we took a wagon ride out to the pumpkin fields and played “I Spy” along the way.  It took some convincing but I finally got Theo to get a decent sized pumpkin.  We had a lot of fun in the petting zoo, holding baby rabbits, petting horses, cows and feeding baby goats.  We learned how to shuck corn, grind it and turn it into meal.  After all the hard work Theo had homemade ice cream with his friends Magnus and Hudson.  Just to show how much fun he had he even slept with his pumpkin last night.

Happy 4th Birthday Theo!

June 5, 2011

bday41.jpg We celebrated Theo’s 4th birthday today and fun was had by all.  He has been excited about this party for months.  Something happens around this age and parties become a big deal.  He wanted cupcakes with blue frosting, track and field, and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.  I can’t figure out how he came up with the idea of a track and field party, LOL!  So that’s what we had, the kids did Long Jump, High Jump, Shot Put and a short sprint race, and for 4 year olds they were pretty good.  They all won medals for each event and they finished the day with lots of gold around there necks.  Oh and for entertainment they got to jump in a Tiger Belly bouncy house, what’s better than jumping on a tigers tummy?  I wanted to say a special THANK YOU for everyone who came, you really made his day and thanks to everyone who helped me set up and clean up, we couldn’t have pulled it off with out you. Happy Birthday Theo!!   Mommy Loves You!!! theos4bday1.jpgtheos41.jpg theos42.jpg theos43.jpg theos44.jpg theos45.jpg theos46.jpg theos47.jpg theos48.jpg theos49.jpg bday41.jpg

January 8, 2011

holidaytravels1.jpg I want to wish everyone a Happy New Year and I hope 2011 is a great year for all.  I finished 2010 with a bang!!  I was able to cheer on the Washington Huskies to a Holiday Bowl victory in San Diego, CA.  Then I kept the celebration going with a New Years Eve count down on the Las Vegas strip.  I was fortunate to start 2011 ring side at a UFC event.  It was my first time watching a UFC event live and it was awesome.   I loaded some pictures and video for you to enjoy.

Dangers of Hydrogenated Oil

December 8, 2010

fatfront1.jpg Last year I blogged about the dangers of plastics and which numbers are safe.  I spend a lot of time researching nutrition and how I can have a healthier lifestyle.  I have made a lot of dietary changes in the last year.  One of which I feel it’s time to talk about and that’s the hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oils.  I have rid my pantry of products that contain them and I would hope you will do the same.  I am going to include some helpful links and videos at the bottom of the message that go into the scientific detail about the dangers. I have to admit I do get teased a lot about my OCD label reading.  I feel very comfortable when I am at home and know what’s in my food and how it’s being prepared.  It’s very challenging to travel now and find food I would approve of on the road, especially in restaurants.  But as I have more conversations with all of the people around me I realize that the dangers of hydrogenated oils are not common knowledge.  Please read the information below, watch the video and do your own searches, so you to can cut this KILLER out of your life. momgoinggreen.wordpress.com  www.learninggymusa.com  www.becomehealthynow.com www.brighthub.com Video www.icyou.com

Las Vegas 2010

September 14, 2010

las-vegas1.jpgMy season just ended about a week ago so some down time was needed.  I had to spend a few days in Las Vegas on business so we worked in a family vacation.   We spent an afternoon pool side at the Mirage.  Theo had a blast, he has a new swim suit that has the built in life vest so he can just jump in swim.  I think we covered every inch of the pool which included swimming under the bridge and waterfall several times, Theo’s 2 favorite spots.  We watched the Volcano erupt at the Mirgae, which was hot an beautiful.  There is a tram that runs between the Mirage and Treasure Island which Theo loved, he thinks trains are coolest, especially Thomas.  And at Treasure Island they have a pirate show, which is really cool.  Theo got to sit on top of his dads shoulders so he had the best view.    After the Pirate show Theo, his dad, great grandmother and I went to dinner and had some of the best food. The coolest thing we saw, the Secret Gadren and Dolphin habitat.  You get to be up close with Dolphins and super close to the tigers and lions.  They had 2 baby white tigers just born in June, but we missed them beacuse we were so fasinated by the dolphins.   We had a great vacation and Theo is still talking about the Dolphins.  I didn’t get pictures of everything but I put a few in the middle of my home page.

Congrats to the Goodson’s

March 20, 2010

aaronsweddingfront1.jpg  I want to wish my little cousin who is now a grown man all the best.  Harun Goodson got married this weekend and we drove to Atlanta, GA today for the reception.  It was fun seeing a lot of my relatives as well as meet his wife and her family.  Everyone had very touching words to say to the couple and there were a few tears shed but we all had a great time.  I again want to wish the newly weds happiness.  Theo had a blast playing with some of his cousins and made some new friends.  He liked the cake the best.  And as the event was winding down Theo got on the mic and sang twinkle twinkle little star.  I wish had the video camera ready.  I got a few good pictures of todays events. 2010 USA Indoor Championships

February 28, 2010

usaindoorsfront1.jpg  This was my 1st trip to a USA indoor championships and it was awesome.  The meet is being held in Albuquerque, NM this weekend, and will be on ESPN 2 today 2/28 7 to 9pm EST.  Being a discus thrower which is an outdoor event sometimes thrown indoors for fun, it’s not part of our indoor championship program.  So I hadn’t made it to an indoor champs until yesterday.  As one of the athletes on our USATF Board of Directors I was in town for a board meeting.  The meeting was productive and after I was able to watch some track and field which is really exciting.  I missed my training partner Cory Martin throwing the weight but I got to see him after and congratulate him on his personal record….Yeah Cory!!!!!  It was exciting to see our medical group from St Vincent’s, great group!!  I was able to get a couple of videos of the lady weight throwers, check them out.For results and more info on the meet visit, http://www.usatf.org/events/2010/USAIndoorTFChampionships/

Goodbye Molly you’ll be missed

June 7, 2009

mwalimu.jpgThe Min Pin known as “Molly Mu” passed away on friday June 5th.  She was a great dog and part of the family for 11 years.  She loved everyone and had friends all over the states.  A lovable lap dog and very much the protector of her people.  She was a small dog but had the heart and appetite of a big dog.  She lived a long and full life and like a cat she had 9 lives.  She survived car accidents, chicken bones, chocolate and everything else a dog is not supposed to have.Molly had a lot of personality and would do a lot of weird things, at times I think, she thought she was human.  One thing she would always do is burrow herself under blankets like a kid tucking themselves in at night.  My friends, the Rudd’s in Knoxville, TN even made Molly her own blanket with her name on it.  And it was her favorite blanket and went with her everywhere. One of my funniest memories is about her big appetite.  I had baked several sweet potatoe pies for thanksgiving and I had them all cooling on the stove and counters.  I had to leave the house for an hour and when I returned home.  She had gotten one off the stove and had eaten almost the whole thing I found her laying down with her head in the pie.  She was so full that she couldn’t get up and when I tried to move the pan from under her head she tried to get in a few last bites.  She went from an 11 pound dog to a 16 pounder in an hour.  It took a month to get the weight off.If you have a funny story that you want to share leave it in the comment section.

Bellie Fit Basics Book Release Party

April 25, 2009

belly_fit1.jpgI am so proud of my friend Monique Hollowell for following her passions.  Last weekend I attended her book release party for her first book, Bellie Fit Basics.  The venue was awesome, as you can see from the pictures we were in an art gallery.  The weather was absolutely perfect that night. She was supported by her husband, family and friends.  I had fun reconnecting with everyone, most of whom I hadn’t seen since her wedding.  A great time was had by all.If you are expecting or have a friend who is expecting a child, we all do, this book is a must have.  Visit Monique’s website, www.belliefitbasics.com and take a look at the book for yourself.  Monique was truly an inspiration to me during my pregnancy encouraging me to keep training and big part of my successful return to throwing after childbirth.   Now help me support her by telling everyone about her book and website.
